For the Global component, I completed the section with taking ASB 100 Global Health and STS 332 Global Issues in Science and Technology. ASB 100 was about Global Health and how when professionals, such as doctors and engineers, arrive into a community that they need to be aware of the cultural aspects of the society and the health concerns that weave into the society and how to find ways to help the people and still not disrespect them or their beliefs. ASB 100 was an overview though that translated into ASB 462 Medical Anthropology for a more in-depth look into societies need to awareness of culture and ethical dilemmas when solving the grand challenges of health.

For STS 332 Global Issues in Science and Technology the course made me think about the challenges we face when trying to solve aspects of the grand challenges such as global struggles, economic disparities, censorship, and cultural aspects that a typical engineer might not take into account when attempting to find a solution. Some topics that the class went over is the debate of scientific information censorship, renewable energy, space travel, accessible healthcare, and security scenarios that involved the risk of hacking as the world becomes more connected. I valued this course because it made me take positions on aspects of the grand challenges that are sometimes debated. I believe it is crucial to have an opinion especially when one day I will potentially have to talk on the grand challenges as an expert and without an opinion the solution may not be properly conveyed to the right people such as politicians that push policy throughout the government.
