To fulfill the global component of GCSP, I completed both a course and a global experience. The course I chose to take was entitled "GCU 364: Energy in the Global Arena". The course mainly focused on the global trends involving energy usage, generation, and distribution. Along with these topics, Professor Pasqualetti discussed certain ethical discussions that surround each topic, as well as the growing need to address depleting energy resources. The course was extremely helpful to teaching me to look at novel technologies and tools in the big picture, considering the large scale implementation of the technology, and what cultural conflicts might arise from implementation.

For the globale experience, I spent one month studying climate change at the University of Exeter in the U.K. through the Fulbright Summer Institutes program for undergraduates. The program was an opportunity to learn about a topic of sustainability I had not previously studied in depth, and to view firsthand how another country was working to solve global sustainability challenges. Not only did I gain a vast network of students and faculty from around the world who share my passion for environmental issues, but I also gained a desire to establish global partnerships for collaboration in my research. I realized that without global cooperation and the exchange of information, progress in key areas of engineering may be severely hindered. I hope to carry this lesson with me and maintain this global perspective throughout my degree and career.
