To complete the Entrepreneurship component of the Grand Challenge Scholars Program, I completed two courses: FSE 301: Entrepreneurship and Value Creation, and IEE 220: Business and Industrial Engineering. FSE 301 focused on the topic of new ventures, and sought to give students the skills necessary to start a business. Through the course, I was able to work with other students to develop a business idea, build a business model, and test the market to fine-tune the design of a product. This course was extremely useful as it helped me to gain firsthand experience working through the steps of transforming a conceptual design into a marketable product. IEE 220 revolved around different topics of business relevant to engineers. I learned about how to create a viable business plan, protect my intellectual property, and evaluate the value of a company through different financial ratios. This class gave me a very useful perspective by which to make financially responsible decisions in my career and personal life.
